Roughlee Parish Council

Seniors' Christmas Lunch (10 Dec), Neighbourhood Watch, Resus Training, Ice signs, Legacy Fund, Remembrance...

Menus have been prepared and invitations printed, ready for circulation in early November, inviting all eligible residents in our parish to our annual Seniors’ Christmas Lunch, scheduled for Thursday 10th December at the Village Centre.

As usual, the children from Roughlee School will be in attendance to entertain us with both traditional and modern Christmas carols. Please keep an eye out for your invitation. If you have not received one by 28th November and believe you are eligible, please contact either Mary, our Parish Clerk, or myself so that we can rectify the situation.

As always, numbers are limited, and due to the size of our catering facilities we cannot accept walk-ins on the day.

I am often approached about speeding vehicles, irresponsible driving, and nuisance visitors. It is disappointing to note that, since our appeal in the last edition of the Parish News, we have received no response from residents willing to volunteer for Neighbourhood Watch or community speed-watch activities within the parish.

Our PCSO, Alan Fielding, who has been championing this initiative, has also received no responses, despite similar schemes proving successful in neighbouring parishes. He has suggested setting up a Facebook page, as this approach has worked well elsewhere. Once again, if you would like to know more, please get in touch or speak to Alan when you see him out and about.

Through a great deal of hard work, we have secured permission from Lancashire County Council to obtain several “Icy Road” warning signs. These will be erected on three affected roads within the village on a temporary basis during the winter months.

Defibrillator and resuscitation training took place during November and was a tremendous success, with 14 attendees from Roughlee and Newchurch trained in resuscitation, Defibrillator use, and emergency scenarios including choking, heart attacks and major bleeds. Thanks to David Brown, local Enhanced First Responder for NWAS Northwest Ambulance Service.

We have no further news to report regarding the outstanding planning applications relating to the caravan park appeal and the land opposite Straitgate Cottages.

We have also begun considering ideas for how best to spend our legacy fund. These proposals will hopefully be finalised at this month’s meeting.

In last month’s edition, we reported on projects that had been completed using funding obtained through the Pride in Place Impact Fund. For clarity, this funding was provided by Pendle Borough Council.

Finally, Remembrance Sunday services will be held at St Mary’s Church on Sunday 8th November at 9.00 am. We will also be holding a short commemoration service in the village at 11.00 am on the 11th. Everyone is welcome, and please feel free to join us.

Next meetings Monday 2nd November and 7th December at 7pm, RVC
