What is Easter you may ask? Easter is when we celebrate that Jesus is risen from the dead. In the church seasons Easter lasts for many more days than Easter Sunday. In fact Easter lasts for 50 days, with the joyful tone set at the first Easter service (in St Mary’s this will be at 6.00am on Easter Sunday 9th April) is maintained for the next seven weeks until the day of Pentecost (28th May Joint service at St Thomas 10.30am) where the promised arrival of the Holy Spirit completes and crowns the Easter season.
There are many Easter customs around the world. Here are a …

On top of that, Barley will be celebrating with a fun-filled family event the following day, hopefully on the Village Green, followed by a night time extravagance with buffet, drinks, quiz and dancing till late at the Village Hall. It is going to take a massive effort to make this happen and we desperately need volunteers on the day and over the weekend to prepare the village and decorate…..and this means the younger group this time….please contact Joanne at [ READ MORE → ]
It’s only a matter of weeks until the Coronation celebrations for King Charles III. What are you up to?
Goldshaw Booth Parish presents the Coronation Picnic on the Park, 7th May at 12noon…. For more details see Cllr. Anthony Dawson’s article below and Chloe’s fab poster. Just bring your own picnic!
The Coronation Picnic takes place on Newchurch park – the perfect event to celebrate the new park facilities; King Charles III Pavilion, Castle climbing frame / slide play unit, refurbished swings, magic toadstools and the Access-4-All pathway – all funded by the Section 106 (Open Spaces) fund as part of the planning permission agreement for the …
[ READ MORE → ]On 7th May we shall be celebrating the grand opening of the new pathway in the Newchurch play area, which signifies the completion of the Access for All project we have been underway with. This makes the park more accessible to anyone who requires a more even surface with a gentle gradient, including pram users and residents! We shall also be enjoying the newly-installed King Charles III Pavilion, which signifies the last spending of the Section 106 money (derived from the developers undertaking the Spenbrook residential development which also nears completion).
Join us in the park to celebrate the Coronation but don’t forget your picnic hamper!
Due to a clash with other events scheduled for the Village Centre it is necessary to change the date for the Parish Gathering from 22nd June to 3rd July. The Gathering is an important event in the village calendar as it allows all residents of the village to come together and meet with Parish Councillors, to hold the Council to account, to receive presentations on current local matters of interest and to enjoy a glass of wine and snacks at a concluding social. We look forward to a good turn out from villagers.
REMEMBER – THE NEW DATE FOR THE GATHERING IS MONDAY 3rd JULY at …

Malkin Morris invites you to a special May Day session at 7pm on Monday May 1st 2023, May Day, in Roughlee Village Centre to try out maypole dancing, free. If fine we shall be outside the Centre in the car park and if inclement we shall use a broom handle maypole inside the Centre. No previous experience is necessary as full instruction will be given if required.
After that we hope to repair to the Bay Horse for our usual informal music session- newcomers always welcome.
If you’ve always wanted another go at maypole dancing after doing it at school, or wondered if it it is as complicated as it looks (it isn’t!) come and try it out. After all, it will be May Day!
